The Etihad is Manchester City's ground on the Etihad Campus, east of the city centre at Manchester M11 3FF. For a few weeks each summer it turns over to stadium shows, with a stage at one end and the pitch covered for standing. If you're travelling in for a gig, the two things worth planning are the journey back after a late finish and a bed within reach of the tram or a walk.

Eleven nights across three weeks is a long run, and it will move a lot of hotel stock in a city that is already busy in June. If you have tickets, book a room now — the Friday and Saturday dates (4, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26 June) will go first, and prices on those nights rise sharply once the closer dates fill.
How the stadium is set up for concerts
For concerts the stage goes up at one end of the bowl and the pitch is boarded over to form the standing floor, so the layout is the usual end-stage arrangement: general admission standing in front, then seated tiers wrapping round the sides and the opposite end. Seats behind and to the extreme sides of the stage are either unsold or sold as restricted view.
If you're in the standing area, note that it's a single large floor — once you're in, you're in, and getting back to your spot after a trip to the bar or toilets is slow. The upper tier is a long climb but gives you a clean view of the whole stage and a faster exit at the end.
Arriving and queues
The listed start time is 17:00, which is when the gates and the support bill begin rather than when the headliner appears. If you want a position near the front of the standing floor, expect people to be queuing outside for several hours before that.
The stadium sits on a large open campus, so the approach from the tram stop and the car parks funnels through security search lanes on the concourse. Bring as little as possible: stadium concerts in the UK almost always restrict bags to a small size and ban anything larger, with bag drop either limited or non-existent. Check the promoter's email for the exact rules before you travel.
By tram, the Etihad Campus stop on the Metrolink line towards Ashton-under-Lyne sits alongside the stadium, with Velopark the next stop along if Etihad Campus is congested. From the city centre it's a short ride, but trams into the ground before a full stadium show are packed and you may have to let one or two go past.
Walking is a genuine option and often the calmer one. Our nearby hotels, most of them around Piccadilly, are between 0.96 and 1.33 miles from the stadium, which works out at roughly 33 to 40 minutes on foot. The route runs east out of the centre along Great Ancoats Street and Ashton New Road.
Getting home after a late finish
Assume the show ends late and plan backwards from that. Stadium headline sets on a weekday typically finish by around 22:30 to comply with local curfew conditions, but you should treat any advertised finish time as approximate.
- Metrolink. Trams run from Etihad Campus back into the city centre, and the operator usually puts on extra services after big events. Last trams on most lines are around midnight, earlier on Sundays, so check the timetable for your night if you're connecting onwards.
- Mainline trains. Manchester Piccadilly is the station for most long-distance departures, and Victoria for services across the north. Last departures to many cities go well before midnight, so if you're not staying over, buy a specific train and know its time before you commit to the gig.
- Taxis and rideshare. Roads around the campus are closed or restricted straight after an event, so pick-up points are pushed back from the stadium and surge pricing on 30,000-plus crowds is steep. Walking 10 to 15 minutes towards the city centre before ordering usually gets you moving faster.
- Walking. If you're staying in the Piccadilly area, the 33 to 40 minute walk back is predictable in a way that nothing else is on a concert night, and the route is busy with other people heading the same way.
Where to stay
